More Birthday Goodies!!!
18 Dec
What a memorable week.
In my whole 28 years, I can’t remember so much effort being put into celebrating my birthday – from my colleagues at work, to my co-CLs, ULs and SDL in church and finally my Care Group on Friday and Sunday! Actually, I thought last year’s celebration at Sentosa was really nice, but this year’s birthday celebration was especially touching for many reasons!
Firstly, unbeknown to me, my CG had actually planned a surprise birthday party for me under the pretext of having a jamming session. Alarm bells should have started ringing when Reindeer accidentally sent out an e-mail earlier in the week asking about party poppers and folks like MC and Tiger seemed unusually unenthusiastic about my suggestions to have jamming at a proper studio instead of my house. Nonetheless, due to the overwhelming amount of work I had that week, I brushed aside any suspicions and just wanted to concentrate on finishing my work in time for care group.
Come Friday, everything seemed to be going a-ok and I was about to leave for home aka care group aka jamming session. Suddenly, I got a call on my mobile phone requesting for urgent assistance back at my project site. Due to the severity and urgency of what was happening, I had no choice but to drop all plans and rush back; and sad to say, I ended up leaving the office only at 11pm as a result. In the meantime, all this was happening behind my back!
Intense “jamming” in progress. Tiger aka operation commander can be seen busy taking photos in the background.

Thanks Tiger! I’m guessing this was from your camera.
It was amazing how calm they managed to stay despite not knowing what time I’d be back from work. In fact, they even had the time and creativity to come up with the video below to send to me at work in order to encourage me! *so touched*
Don’t know whose faces are funnier – the people’s or the balloon’s.

One of the many candid moments – MC sabo-ing everyone by taking a video instead of a picture.

All together now… Happy Birthday to ME! Happy Birthday to ME!

Yup! They even did one for Gab too! This would’ve warmed his heart in freezing Beijing.
Finally, after much faith (and PATIENCE!) on behalf of everyone, I arrived home.
INK: Where is everyone?
TY: They left oredi… so late!
INK: Thot you said MC and Ming were still around… (TY told me over the phone earlier that both of them will wait since they have something to show me)
TY: They left too! Did you see them on the way up?
INK: Uhhhh… no *sob* *sob*
(pause)
INK: Say… why is the study room curtain closed?
TY: Oh, they were practicing something inside earlier.
INK: Orh… (still clueless)
I proceed to my study room as it is my usual routine to put down my things before doing anything else. As I reach for the door handle, suddenly…
The door flings open!!!

Note: Digital popper effects added in because everyone failed to hit their target.
Nice decor – signs plastered over the place that helped me regain my bearings.

After I recovered from my mini heart-attack, it was time for cake! The cake they got me looked surprisingly a lot like the cake I got TY for her birthday, which also surprisingly looks like what I like to doodle when I’m bored.
TY’s cake in pink and INK’s cake in yellow. Don’t they make a lovely couple!

*Burp* Like the saying goes, “You are what you eat”.

Pris also took the time to compose and read a very touching poem! The entire poem can be found on her blog!

Finally, the main event of the night – SABO! The game was simple, for each wrong question answered, I get one nail painted pink. The first set of questions was a ruse (which I thankfully noticed after only 2 questions) as none of them had right answers. However, I must say, the folks know my style and prepared a backup set of questions – Name the Capitals of the World! Oh boy… unlike Amleth, geography isn’t one of my pet subjects.

Tiger also has a pretty funny account of the sabo on his blog plus Sunday’s affirmation session after church (which was also another BIG surprise!).
The surviving balloons! I hope I remembered who blowed what correctly.

Thanks again everybody for the wonderful party and surprise! I’m so blessed to be your care leader!
