Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner!

Yup, that's the correct answer. (a - n - d) = 0 and by cancelling that out on both sides, you have to divide both sides by (a - n - d), i.e. zero. However, we know that dividing anything by zero gives us infinity.

hmm...i just decided to explore gege's friends blogs....quite a few interesting ones (including yours)

I guess it's the (a-n-d) was cancelled part. Coz the 1st line says a=n+d so (a-n-d)=0.... then a(a-n-d)=n(a-n-d) doesn't give any info at all lor... =)

Probably this is a trick question haha... But if I was back in JC/sec a standard ans, I would put a condition in the 2nd line, (a-n) cannot = 0. then the last line, a = n, would not stand. Then I would add, if you should substitue all a's for (n + d) and not just partially. And then you are just evaluating one side of the equation, expanding it and eliminating variables. haha... ok, I'm probably off haha. Tell us the answer if no one else tries to guess.

Tigerming: Oh actually I figured out she was your sis coz she has a blog too and your parent's pics are on it! :-D

Junhui: Thanks for visiting my blog! How did you find it? :-D Anyway, you are 50% correct, i.e. you cannot multiply both sides with 0. However, you cannot immediately assume that (a - n) = 0 from the 2nd line. Look further down. :-P

cannot both sides x(a-n) because if a=n then (a-n) is 0?

Hehe... wrong answer! The "-ad" was brought over to the left hand side of the equation. Try again! :P
